Commentary and Highlighted by Virginia Millano Evangelista Fabro~Rivera

Joshua Maroof: The Rabbis of the Talmud and Midrash, followed by Rashi and Radaq, maintain that Psalm 119 was composed by King David.

June Alonzo: The Philippines is a nation of Davids.

ANNA FELICIA BAJO: Based on prophecy, Balais holds that the Philippines must become a "nation of Davids"—moral people who love righteousness—as a prerequisite for God to raise up an equally righteous, moral, and God-fearing president. Balais, who helped birth IFP and CLSF also in the 1980s, equally foresees that the raising of a "nation of Davids is for the long-term." The 69-year-old bishop adds, "Hopefully, we shall still be alive when that happens."

SETH J. FRANTZMAN: Today, it seems, we have come full circle. The IDF is back in Gaza, and what happens in Netzarim could determine the course of the war. Why? This area links Israel to the sea and it is where the US-built pier is also located, on the Mediterranean side. Israel is now re-learning what it means to be in Gaza for the long term.

Zolani Mkiva: As we recognize the state of Palestine, we must, at the same time, derecognize the state of Israel, because those are the two sides of the same coin.

Uncle Cliff: Can I keep it?

Excerpted Message from Phoenix's Superintendent of Schools: As a school district, it is our role to educate, enlighten and engage. This includes examining and debating difficult issues that affect our world. In the days and weeks to come, our teachers will engage our middle and high school students in age-appropriate and relevant discussions about the current conflict in Gaza and Israel, as well as the events leading up to the recent attack. Our goal is that these learning opportunities will encourage students to critically analyze the tensions, explore different perspectives and engage in constructive dialogues. By equipping our students with a deeper understanding of the conflict and encouraging empathy and kindness, we hope to model behavior that shows respect for all and contributes to a future in which violence is not an option.
